The New York City Chapter was originally founded in 1973 until 2008. The Chapter has since reorganized in 2009 as the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women Inc. New York Chapter (NACOPRW).
NACOPRW NY Chapter is a non-profit, non-partisan organization:
NACOPRW NY Chapter is organized for the charitable, educational, literary and cultural purposes of promoting a positive cultural identity among Puerto Ricans by preserving culture, history and legacy through educational and cultural activities, as well as housing, domestic violence, elder care, health issues and rights within the work environment.
NACOPRW NY Chapter also seeks changes through the concerted effort and involvement of Puerto Rican and Hispanic/Latina women to attain equal rights for Puerto Rican and other Hispanic women to promote their equitable participation in the social, economic and political life in the United States and Puerto Rico; and to identify and develop leadership among Puerto Rican women and thus provide role models for our youth and the New York community.
As a previous President in 2004-2006, the chapter raised 33 one thousand scholarships on behalf of women of Puerto Rican descent and youth.
All persons who subscribe to the purposes of NACOPRW NY Chapter are eligible regardless of race, sex, creed, age, national origin, religion or disability to become a member.
