Miami Chapter

Mayra Lee Hernandez , President

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings! It is with great excitement that I have the opportunity to address you all.

Our Chapter was founded in 1977 by a group of dedicated Puerto Rican women pioneers who sought to make a significant effort in recognizing, nurturing, and developing our voices in South Florida. They did this by cherishing our cultural identity and spreading awareness of our needs. After 45 years, our chapter has evolved and transcended social and economic changes and, is embracing the new challenges ahead.

We have been investing in our young women leaders by awarding annual scholarships to those accepted into college. This year, for the first time, we will be awarding a scholarship to an undergraduate/graduate student in the health/medical field, thanks to the generous donation of Salvador and Carmen O’Neill Trut.

For the next two years our chapter will be exploring/researching the present-day status of the Puerto Rican women in South Florida and expanding our networking undertakings. We invite all of you willing to join and support our efforts to visit our webpage www.nacoprwmiami.org and become an active member. If you cannot physically join our new endeavors, please consider sending an electronic donation to fund our projects and scholarship program.

Yours truly,

Dr. Mayra Lee Hernandez
